New CEO Takes Over at Marriott International Next Month

Washington, DC  – J.W. “Bill” Marriott will step down this month as CEO of Marriott International, Inc., and move into the position of executive chairman and chairman of the board of the hotel chain.

Arne Sorenson, the current president and COO of Marriott, will take over as CEO effective March 31.

Marriott, 80, has spent 60 years with the company, which owns the Ritz-Carlton brand and operates major convention hotels in cities around the world.

“Arne knows the business, lives our core values, and has earned the respect and admiration of all of our company’s major stakeholders,” Marriott said. “As Arne takes over the day-to-day reins of the company, he does so with my utmost confidence.”

Sorenson’s COO duties will be taken over by Robert McCarthy, currently group president for the company.
