NAMM Maestro Joe Lamond is TSE’s Gold 100 Power Lunch Guest

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Dana Point, CA – Joe Lamond, the president and CEO of the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM), will be the guest of honor at the Power Lunch segment of this year’s Trade Show Executive Gold 100 Awards & Summit and will grace the cover of TSE’s November issue.

Lamond will share his insights on the steady and robust growth of The NAMM Show and its sister show, Summer NAMM, with Gold 100 delegates.

TSE’s Power Lunch is one of the many highlights of the annual Gold 100, which draws not only the organizers of the 100 largest trade shows in the nation, but also the top brass from other associations with leading show brands; other prominent multi-show organizers; respected global leaders; and other industry VIPs.

The Gold 100 event will be held October 22-24 at the St. Regis Monarch Beach Resort on the scenic Southern California coast. Power Lunch is one of the most anticipated sessions in the full-day lineup of industry thought leaders and outside speakers. Immediately following the Gold Summit is the banquet and presentation of the Grand Awards to the top shows of 2013 and the leaders and teams that organized them.

During the Power Lunch session, Lamond will be live on stage with Darrell Denny, senior vice president of Emerald Expositions, and will also take questions and comments from the audience. Denny is a trade show virtuoso in his own right with a 30-year career in the trade show industry and service on the boards of directors of the Society of Independent Show Organizers (SISO) and the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR).

Lamond has been at the helm of NAMM since 2001 and set the stage for the steady growth of the association’s trade shows. The NAMM Show was 27th on the most recent Gold 100 rankings and this year, its exhibit space jumped 5.1% to 547,183 nsf. Attendance has also climbed steadily, and the presence of top-tier bands and musicians has turned The NAMM Show into one of Anaheim’s biggest and best annual parties and business facilitators. Lamond also oversees the Summer NAMM, which grew 8.1% in nsf and 7.4% in attendance in July, more than double the growth of the average trade show that month.

Under the guidance of Lamond and Cindy Sample, director of trade shows, NAMM has been making some beautiful music in the exhibition industry.

The Gold 100 Summit will also feature keynote speaker Josh Linkner, a venture capitalist, tech entrepreneur and New York Times best-selling author.  Linkner will show industry leaders how to embrace the creativity, grit and vision of a startup, and then channel this approach to drive growth, innovation, efficiency and customer delight. Also on tap is former CNN International Correspondent Mark Bernheimer, with an encore performance following his highly acclaimed session at TSE’s Fastest 50 Summit. Bernheimer will offer delegates some unique insights on the motivations of the typical reporter, and how to best engage the news media to put your show and yourself in the best possible light during  an interview.
