Messe Frankfurt Enjoying Momentous 4th Quarter

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Frankfurt, Germany – Messe Frankfurt wrapped up a busy November that included the acquisition of a Russian trade show, the acquisition of a satellite venue and a deal that will make Frankfurt the home to a portfolio of UBM Live events for the next 10 years.

The month ended with the announcement that Messe Frankfurt had acquired Interlight Moscow from another German organizer, Ost-West-Partner GmbH, effective January 1.

Interlight Moscow was launched 16 years ago and has grown into a leading trade show for the industrial lighting industry in Russia and surrounding nations. Messe Frankurt organizes a similar exhibition, Lighting + Building, in Germany and plans to market the two brands together.

Tie-in With UBM Live
The Interlight Moscow acquisition came on the heels of another agreement between Messe Frankfurt and UBM Live, a division of United Business Media. The agreement signed in November will locate a half-dozen UBM Live shows at the Messe Frankfurt convention center until 2021.

“The UBM Live portfolio is an excellent match with our own portfolio as well as our areas of expertise,” said Wolfgang Marzin, president and CEO of Messe Frankfurt. “The themes covered by UBM Live will help us broaden the spectrum of events in Frankfurt and become more independent of economic fluctuations within individual sectors.”

Messe Frankfurt said its Fall calendar now includes the UBM Live shows: CPhI, Health Ingredients Europe, Food Ingredients Europe, ISCE, InnoPack and P-MEC.

Nik Rudge, managing director of UBM Live Food, Pharma & Middle East, said Frankfurt’s position as an international travel hub and convention city made it a good fit with their events. “It is a capital of business and finance that is easy to reach from anywhere on the globe,” he said. “It also offers outstanding infrastructure and a wide selection of hotels of all categories close to the exhibition grounds.”

Satellite Venue
Messe Frankurt also completed the acquisition of a small exhibition center being built as part of a new shopping center in Frankfurt’s Europaviertel district by CA Immo Deutschland GmbH.The to-be-named facility will be completed by the end of 2013 and will provide flexible meeting space for stand-alone events and as a satellite venue for the main convention center.
