Messe Frankfurt Acquires Thailand Shows

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

BANGKOK — Messe Frankfurt acquired ownership of a pair of construction sector exhibitions in Thailand it has helped manage for the past three years and will add them to their Light + Building portfolio.

The Messe Frankfurt New Era Business Media Ltd. division of Messe Frankfurt acquired the co-located Thailand Lighting Fair and Thailand Building Show from its Thai partners, The Exhibiz and the state-run Provincial Electricity Authority. The partnership dates to 2015 when the two shows were launched.

Exhibiz will continue to be involved in the production of the shows, according to Messe Frankfurt. The Bangkok company is owned by Worldex G.E.C. Co Ltd., a Thai show organizer that has had business ties with Messe Frankfurt for three decades.

Thailand Lighting Fair and Thailand Building Fair will increase the German organizer’s Light + Building roster to 15 worldwide shows. “The Light + Building brand of shows is recognized around the world for its high quality event format and its power to attract the best in the industry,” said Stephan Buurma, a member of the Messe Frankfurt Board of Management in a statement. “Adding the Thailand Lighting Fair and Thailand Building Fair will complement our existing shows by creating a synergy between the different lighting and building markets.”

This year’s editions of the two shows will be held Nov. 8-10 at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre. Messe Frankfurt said more than 165 exhibitors were expected and around 10,000 gross square meters (107,639 square feet) of exhibit space would be available. The shows will be co-located with a third exhibition, Secutech Thailand.

Moreover, Messe Frankfurt is betting on a continuing strong economy in Thailand and the rest of Southeast Asia to further drive show growth. “The region is collectively the sixth-largest economy in the world and the third most populous,” Buurma said. “The acquisition will facilitate Messe Frankfurt to further develop our presence within the network of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).”
