Messe Dusseldorf to Create New Riverfront Entryway

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Dusseldorf, Germany — The next phase of the ongoing renovations at Messe Dusseldorf will include a rebuilt exhibit hall and a new entrance space that includes a panoramic view of the Rhine River.

Messe Dusseldorf announced that the 140 Euro project would get underway in May after the conclusion of Interpack and would be completed in 2019. The plan includes an entirely new South Entrance and the replacement of Exhibit Halls 1 and 2 with a single space totaling 129,160 square feet (sf).

“The creation of impressive, state-of-the-art event facilities will substantially boost the attractiveness of Dusseldorf as a destination for conventions and other events,” said CEO Werner Dronscheidt,  “As trade fair organizers, we also can give our customers significant added value by offering flexible usage options.”

The project taking place on the south side of the convention center is a continuation of the renovations that have taken place in the north side. The overall project is scheduled to run through 2030 and cost around 636 million Euros.

“By redesigning the South Entrance, we are creating a high-quality condition for exhibitors and visitors, both architecturally and functionally – the same that we already have at the North Entrance,” Dornscheidt said.

The plan for the South Entrance calls for a repositioning that will include a full view of the Rhine. An awning structure will be both translucent and illuminated. The 6,560 sf foyer are will be suitable for functions and will be adjacent to a glass-enclosed meeting room.

Halls 1 and 2 will then be demolished and replaced with a single hall adjacent to the foyer. It will include six meeting rooms of 2,150 sf apiece. The space can be converted into a separate event venue seating 10,000.
