Media Reports of Possible Sale of Reed Exhibitions Fade

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

London, UK – The latest reported talks on a possible sale of Reed Exhibitions came and went with no change in ownership.

Mike Rusbridge, chairman of Reed Exhibitions, told Trade Show Executive that there was “no substance” to the reported discussions. He described British news reports as a “rumor” that had quickly faded away.

London’s City A.M. was among the handful of publications and web sites that said two European private equity groups, Cinven and Apax, had sounded out Reed’s parent company, Reed Elsevier, about acquiring Reed Exhibitions.

Reed Exhibitions is the largest trade show organizer in the world with 440 events in 36 nations. Its performance had been weighed down recently by the recession, but Reed executives have said business was already on the rebound. Rusbridge told Trade Show Executive during the UFI meeting in Singapore November 10 that Reed Exhibitions planned to launch 80 exhibitions worldwide in the next two years.
