Marketplace Events Acquires Semco’s Atlanta Shows

SOLON, Ohio — Marketplace Events continues to expand its southeast footprint. The business-to-consumer home show producer has entered the Atlanta market with the acquisition of Semco Productions’ three events: The Spring Atlanta Home Show, the Fall Atlanta Home Show & Outdoor Living Expo and The North Atlanta Home Show & Outdoor Living Expo.

“Semco has a longstanding tradition of doing shows in Atlanta and has done an excellent job of creating a legacy, so we’re very excited to go into the market not only with a well-known brand but also to be in a market that is poised for expansion,” said Marketplace Events CEO Tom Baugh. “Both venues are expanding and are in areas with a high density of homeowners, and Atlanta is growing at a tremendous rate, so the possibility for attendance is very high. It’s rare you find all these things combined with a level of quality that has been going on for a long time. It’s a very strong opportunity for us.”

The move is reflective of Marketplace Events’ ongoing strategic and aggressive growth strategy. This is the 23rd show the firm has launched or acquired since being purchased by Sentinel Capital Partners in February 2016. With this acquisition, the Ohio-based firm has increased its portfolio to 64 events in 29 markets, including 39 U.S. home shows, 16 Canadian home shows and nine holiday shows.

“Geographically and economically Atlanta gives us a base of operations in the southeast that will be extremely beneficial as we look at other potential deals,” Baugh added.

Atlanta isn’t the only area poised for growth, however. The purchase is a reflection of Baugh’s overall confidence in the general state of the industry.

“I consider the North American market for the business-to-consumer home show to remain active for as far out as I can see,” he said.

Marketplace Events intends to continue to take advantage of the positive climate. Although he did not go into specifics, Baugh confirmed that the company is under letters of intent for two other deals and expects to announce them within the next month.
