Informa Sells UBM Life Sciences Media brands

JAMIE BARTOSCH, SENIOR NEWS EDITOR

A year after it acquired UBM Life Sciences media brands, Informa PLC has sold the assets to MJH Associates Inc. for just over $100 million.

The deal will form a new business unit within MJH called MultiMedia Healthcare, LLC. The transaction does not include the CBI events business, which has been combined with the branded Life Sciences business within Informa’s Knowledge & Networking division. CBI’s professional healthcare conferences include Pharma Forum, PCC (Pharmaceutical Compliance Congress, and Medicaid and Government Pricing Congress.

The sale marks a major expansion for MJH Associates – an independent, New Jersey-based healthcare education, market research and multichannel medical communications company.

The acquisition adds 220 associates, six U.S. offices and one United Kingdom office to MJH, increasing their global workforce to more than 600 people. It’s now the largest privately held medical media company in the U.S.

MJH will acquire more than 20 print, digital and multimedia platforms from UBM Life Sciences in the health care, animal care, pharma sciences and dental fields. The holdings include Medical Economics, Pharmaceutical Technology and DVM360, and the three regional live Fetch dvm360 conferences.

The new media acquisitions will complement MJH’s existing portfolio of pharmaceutical, medical device, diagnostic and biotech media.

“We recognized that combining the Fetch dvm360 conference series with our capability of developing multimedia platforms will leave no question that these conferences will be on the forefront of providing access to trusted animal health information and research,” said MJH Associates Inc. President Michael J. Hennessy Jr. “The acquisition should have a tremendously positive impact on the meetings. We are hoping to add a bit of the MJH touch to these, while keeping true to what has made these meetings so successful.”

Hennessy added that the acquisition will further MJH’s commitment to provide readers, patients and caregivers with trusted and timely resources.

Tom Ehardt, Executive Vice President and Senior Managing Director of the UBM Life Sciences Group, will serve as President of MultiMedia Healthcare LLC, reporting to MJH COO George Glatcz.
