London, UK – Informa Global Exhibitions Division has acquired Florida International Medical Exposition (FIME) Exhibition & Congress and will add it to its already strong presence in the life sciences sector.
Informa currently produces more than 150 trade and consumer exhibitions worldwide each year including 22 trade shows and 100 conferences in the life sciences sector. “Informa has the resources of a global company to grow the show on a strategic level and we anticipate that the show will become a key component of our Global Exhibitions Division,” said Charles McCurdy, CEO of Informa’s Global Exhibitions Division.
Prior to joining Informa earlier this year, McCurdy had led Canon Communications into a key role as a showcase for new medical technology; Canon has since become a division of UBM.
The FIME acquisition is also the latest move by London-based Informa in its strategy to increase its presence in the overall U.S. market. Informa made a blockbuster deal for Hanley Wood Exhibitions in 2014 and also recently acquired the U.S. show organizers Virgo Group and Orlando MegaCon.
Simon Page, managing director of the Informa Life Sciences Division, said the new show was part of a worldwide expansion strategy in the life sciences arena. “Informa has a long-term strategic vision to continue to expand the life sciences’ exhibition business into the American markets,” he said. “The recent acquisition of FIME fits in firmly with our goal of expanding our international trade show operations in the region and with our existing portfolio of life sciences events across the globe.”
No major changes were immediately planned for the FIME Exhibition & Congress, now in its 25th year. The show takes place annually in Miami, which is convenient to attendees from both North and South America. Its brisk growth in 2010 placed it on the Trade Show Executive Fastest 50 roster.
