IAEE Offers Webinar on Dealing with Active Shooters

DANICA TORMOHLEN, EDITOR-AT-LARGE

Dallas, TX – As the number of active shooter incidents has seen an uptick in recent years, trade shows need to be prepared for this potential security threat. To help organizers address these challenges, the International Association of Exhibitions & Events (IAEE) will host a webinar on active shooter training presented by security professionals from United Security Services Inc., a national provider of security services that specializes in hotel, convention and trade show security. The webinar, which is free for IAEE members, will be held from 12 pm to 1 pm CST on Thursday, June 23.

Bill Callaghan, Vice President/Director of Security Specialists for United Security Services Inc., and Ken Grandy, Security Specialist for United Security Services Inc., will provide IAEE members with the best practices used in preparing for and responding to an active shooter incident.

“In an effort to help protect our industry from such incidents, we are looking forward to sharing a modified version of our active shooter training module with IAEE webinar participants,” said Callaghan. “Our training module has been carefully developed for our staff and incorporates input from industry experts and Homeland Security professionals.”

Callaghan, who has provided personal security for numerous celebrities and politicians, and Grandy, who is a former Chicago police officer, will address how to identify behavioral indicators of an active shooter, the common characteristics of these incidents, preparedness and target hardening tactics, and response techniques to keep exhibitors and attendees safe.

“Preparedness and awareness are really key,” said Callaghan. “We will share the best practices used today to deal with active shooters so that show organizers have the information and knowledge they need to work with their teams more effectively.”

After a presentation, webinar participants will be able to ask questions, and additional resources will also be provided.

The webinar qualifies for one hour of Certified in Exhibition Management (CEM) recertification. To register for this free webinar, go to: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/6731096210695573249
