Hyatt Regency Set to Open in Southern China

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Xiamen, China — The southern Chinese city of Xiamen now has a new Hyatt Regency hotel serving its convention center.

The Hyatt Regency Xiamen Wuyuanwan opened in February near the city’s Xiamen International Conference & Exhibition Center (XICEC). It is the first Hyatt Regency in the city and is part of an extensive commercial development that also includes an office tower and retail space.

“We are excited to welcome the Hyatt Regency brand to Xiamen,” said Christopher Koehler, Vice President and Managing Director – Operations for Hyatt in China. “This hotel is a great testament to Hyatt’s commitment to developing its brand footprint in places where our guests are increasingly traveling.”

Xiamen, located in coastal Fujian Province, is a busy port city and has a diverse manufacturing base located in a Special Economic Zone. As a result, the convention center has hosted a wide array of industrial trade shows.  Built in 2000, the center included 60,000 square meters (196,850 square feet) of exhibit space.

The new Hyatt Regency offers 300 rooms of varying sizes along with 2,500 sm (26,909 sf) of meeting space, eight individual event rooms ranging from 60 to 160 sm (645 to 1,722 sf), and a 925-sm (9,956 sf) ballroom.
