Gregg Caren Named Executive VP as SMG Creates Separate Convention Center Division

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

West Conshohocken, PA – SMG promoted Gregg Caren to executive vice president as part of a reorganization of its upper ranks that included creating two separate divisions for convention centers and for stadiums and arenas.

Caren was named executive vice president for convention and exhibition centers. He had been senior vice president of strategic business development for the company.

Doug Thornton, regional vice president based in New Orleans, was named executive vice president of stadiums and arenas. Bob McClintock was named COO of convention centers.

Caren and Thornton will be responsible for their entire divisions and will report directly to Wes Westley, president and CEO of SMG. “All of these moves strengthen SMG’s position in our lines of business, and recognize and reward deserving executives,” Westley said.

SMG manages 230 convention centers, stadiums and other public facilities in the U.S. The portfolio includes McCormick Place in Chicago, Moscone Center in San Francisco, Houston’s Reliant Park and several other buildings totaling some 14.4 million square feet of overall exhibit space.
