Alexandria, VA – Tom Mobley, senior vice president of convention centers for Global Spectrum, is among the five 2010 inductees to the Convention Industry Council’s (CIC) Hall of Leaders.
In making the announcement, CIC Chief Operating Officer Karen Kotowski said, “We are pleased to announce the winners of this prestigious award. There is tremendous talent in our industry, and the 2010 class clearly meets the criteria for this award: lasting contributions to the meetings, conventions, exposition and travel industry, as well as to society as a whole.”
The honorees will be formally inducted at the Hall of Leaders Gala in Dallas next January. The other inductees include:
- Preston Robert Tisch, former chairman and co-owner of Loews Hotel. Tisch was chairman of NYC & Company for 19 years and most recently has been advocating support for business travel with the U.S. Travel Association.
- Jerry Wayne, vice president, sales and marketing, The Greenbrier. Wayne spent 20 years with Gaylord Entertainment and is a past chairman of Meeting Professionals International (MPI).
- M. Theresa Breining, president and CEO of the meetings management firm Concepts Worldwide and chair of MPI from 2003 to 2004.
- The late Steve Porter, who was president of the Americas, IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group). Porter was among the early advocates of the Travel Promotion Act in his role as vice chairman of the Travel Business Roundtable.
Mobley was nominated on behalf of the trade show industry by the Center for Exhibition Industry Research (CEIR). He joined Global Spectrum in 2005 after stepping down as chief executive of the Washington Convention Center Authority. “He has shaped and advanced the industry through his initiatives, mentoring young people and leading us toward a bright future,” said CEIR President and CEO Doug Ducate.
Mobley has also been active in industry associations. He served as chairman of CEIR and the CIC as well as on the boards of directors of the Exhibition Industry Foundation (EIF) and the Professional Convention Management Association’s (PCMA) Education Foundation.
