Berlin, Germany – Germany’s BABYWELT consumer shows have been acquired from Messewelten by GJ EME, a partnership of Expomedia Group plc and magazine publisher Gruner + Jahr AG & Co KG.
The BABYWELT shows offer exhibits of a wide range of baby-related products aimed at German parents, who have recently been enjoying a robust increase in their average income.
The events will take place in Berlin, Hamburg, Essen, Stuttgart, Munich and Cologne under the management of GJ EME.
Messewelten, a subsidiary of Messe Berlin, reported a 1.2 million Euro ($1.73 million) turnover for the BABYWELT brand in 2006 with bookings for the 2007 events running 50% ahead of the same period last year.
The shows are expected to get another boost from Gruner + Jahr’s position as a publisher of Eltern, a magazine covering the parenting sector. Such synergy has been a key component of the GJ EME strategy of expanding its presence in various German consumer sectors.
“This acquisition is part of our continued strategy to focus on events where G+J has the largest media presence,” said Mark Shashoua, chief executive of Expomedia. Shashoua added that the BABYWELT venture comes on the heels of GJ EMA rolling out a series of food event called EAT’n STYLE.
