Dusseldorf, Germany — Energy Storage Europe, the world’s largest conference focused on energy storage, drew a record number of exhibitors and visitors to Dusseldorf, Germany this month. The conference included the 6th Energy Storage Conference of Messe Dusseldorf and the 11th International Renewable Energy Storage Conference (IRES 2017) of EUROSOLAR e.V.
The conferences merged in October 2015. Energy Storage Europe focuses on the business and financial aspects of energy storage, while the International Renewable Energy Storage Conference focuses on the scientific and socio-political aspects of the industry. Together, they offer a broad spectrum of services for professionals throughout the energy storage industry.
The mid-March co-located event drew a record number of exhibitors (160) and more than 4,200 visitors from 55+ countries—a 35% increase over the previous year. A move from the Congress Center to a larger exhibition hall enabled the partnered shows to offer more than 21,500 sf of exhibition space.
One of the trade show’s unique features is a broad range of storage technology represented, ranging from battery storage systems ranging from thermal and mechanical storage to power-to-x storage concepts. The power-to-x options—many of which are focused on hydrogen-based solutions—saw exhibitor numbers jump dramatically in just the past few years. That reflects the dynamic nature of the energy storage sector and a growing interest in energy storage options, according to organizers.
Hans Werner Reinhard, Managing Director of Messe Dusseldorf, said in a news release that “The Energy Storage Europe event has ultimately changed from being a specialist conference to the leading cross-sector trade fair.” Reinhard added that the show remained loyal to its primary B2B audience while still drawing an increased number of exhibitors, visitors and international participants.
