Toronto, Ontario – Three Australian trade shows were put up for sale by dmg world media along with a dozen trade shows and consumer events held in New Zealand.
The planned divestitures announced July 7 were the latest step in dmg’s strategy of shedding consumer-product shows and focusing on trade-market events.
The company has been in the process of selling off consumer-oriented events in the U.S. and Canada. Urban Expositions acquired the San Francisco International Gift Fair and the Seattle Gift Show from dmg earlier this month before turning its attention Down Under.
“dmg world media has a solid regional business across Australia and New Zealand”, said Mark Alcock, deputy CEO, dmg world media. “We will look for a buyer who wants to continue to invest in these shows, which have become known for their success in serving their markets and industries, for more than 25 years.”
The sale will not include dmg’s Sydney technology events, including Evanta, ad:tech Sydney and the iMedia summits.
dmg said the three Australian trade events offered for sale include Foodpro, BSM, and the co-located Designex and Form and Function shows.
The New Zealand events include four consumer shows: Canterbury Home Show, Auckland Home Show, Auckland Autumn Home Show and Big Boys Toys. The eight trade shows are: Autumn Gift, Winter Gift, Spring Gift, EMEX, Foodtech Packtech, Hospitality NZ, Build NZ/Designex NZ and Printech.
