Portland, ME – Diversified Business Communications is expanding its presence in the medical education arena into the U.S. with the acquisition of Pri-Med from MC Holdings Corporation. The acquisition adds 50 medical education conferences and various digital properties to Diversified’s current portfolio of 20 conferences held in Canada.
“We launched our Canadian medical event business in 2003 and it has had incredible growth,” said Nancy Hasselback, president and CEO of Diversified. “We are looking forward to leveraging our content and strategic leadership to bring the leading medical events to North America and expand the brand internationally.”
Diversified said it would bring in Pri-Med founder John Mooney as CEO and operate the company as a separate division based in Boston. He will be joined by his former management team of Lynn Long and Dix Wheelock. They will partner with Managing Director Bob MacGregor, who oversees the current roster of Canadian conferences.
Pri-Med annually hosts more than 50,000 primary care doctors representing 1 million hours of Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits. Pri-Med, which launched in 1994, allows attendees at its live events to customize their CME schedule by offering more than 50 clinical lectures developed by Harvard University and other medical institutions.
The Pri-Med audience, however, is not limited to physicians but also offers learning opportunities for nurses and other healthcare workers and even patients and their families. “This is a great opportunity to expand on Pri-Med’s platform of educating primary care clinicians to include education for specialists and for patients and their families,” said Mooney. “Our goal is to improve the education and the communication among all healthcare stakeholders, one market at a time.”
