Portland, ME – Diversified Business Communications expanded again this month with the acquisition of Spar Point Research, Infocast India and dmg world media’s Australian trade show portfolio.
The deals announced December 7 came on the heels of Diversified’s acquisition of the majority stake of Asia Business Events Ltd. in April. That acquisition gave Diversified a Hong Kong division in addition to its operations in the U.S., Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.
Nancy Hasselback, president and CEO of Diversified, said the activity was strategic and in preparation for the upturn in the economy. “Companies that continue to grow in periods of recession gain market share and become stronger as the economy turns around,” she said. “The recent economic climate has presented us with a number of great opportunities to diversify.”
The Australian events, which compliment Diversified’s DesignBUILD and FoodTech, total more than 17,500 net square feet (nsf). The shows center on the food, design and construction sectors. Among the shows acquired from dmg are foodpro, Building Services & Maintenance Expo and designEX, including Form & Function. The transaction was the latest in dmg’s long-running plan to streamline its show roster.
Infocast India publishes and organizes events in India’s thriving film and music industries. The company will be rechristened Diversified Communications India and remain under the guidance of Managing Director Anil Chopra. Chopra said joining Diversified would open a door for the global expansion of its products.
Spar Point Research is based in New England, as is Diversified, and organizes SPAR annual events in the U.S. and Japan serving the 3D imaging technology industry. The conference-driven events average 4,000 nsf. Founder Tom Greaves will join Diversified as director of the Spar group.
