Hong Kong -Wolfram Diener was named senior vice president of UBM Asia effective November 1. He will be responsible for driving UBM Asia’s fast-growing business in Shanghai (UBM Sinoexpo and UBM China), Beijing and Hangzhou and will oversee UBM Asia’s jewelry portfolio including the Hong Kong Jewellery & Gem Fair. He will also join the UBM Asia board of directors.
Diener has been involved in the Asian exhibition market for 18 years with past experience as an executive with Hamburg Messe, Messe Frankfurt, the Shanghai New International Expo Centre Company (SNIEC), and most recently, the Venetian Macau where he was vice president, conventions and exhibitions.
UBM Asia also named Zhang Xue Qiang as managing director of Shanghai UBM Sinoexpo International Exhibition Co. Ltd. which is a joint venture of UBM Asia and Shanghai Sinoexpo International Exhibition Ltd. The joint venture was founded by Wang Ming Liang in 1992 and has become the leading private exhibition organizer in China. Wang will join the UBM Asia board.
Zhang has 25 years of experience in the China exhibition industry. He started with the Shanghai International Exhibition Co. of the CCPIT – The China Council for the Promotion of International Trade. He joined Shanghai Sinoexpo in 1997 as deputy general manager with responsibilities for numerous events. Under his direction, one of the events, Hotelex, expanded to three branded events and the exhibition space grew twelvefold. His background includes three years at Reed Exhibitions and three years at VNU Exhibitions Asia.
