COMDEX to Live Again as a Virtual Show

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Framingham, MA – The legendary COMDEX will make a comeback this Fall as a virtual trade show produced by Everything Channel, a United Business Media (UBM) company.

The November 16-17 show will cater to the technology sales sector and will take place in a digital version of Las Vegas, the city where the physical COMDEX was a marquee event from 1979 until it folded in 2003.

Robert Faletra, CEO of the Everything Channel, said COMDEX would once again reach a $424 billion market that accounts for around two-thirds of the annual technology sales in North America. “A virtual COMDEX gives us the ability to connect to this market, which is currently untapped,” Faletra said. “When COMDEX was first launched, it was positioned as a show for the technology sales channel. We are pleased to bring it back to its initial mission.”

COMDEX was known to draw up to 200,000 attendees and 2,300 exhibitors in its heyday. UBM acquired the brand in 2006 as part of its acquisition of MediaLive International.

UBM Studios is creating the virtual environment using the InXpo virtual event platform. The digital convention center will feature an exhibit hall, conference center, media room and the Grand Hall of Masters, where keynote speakers will be featured. A preview of the event can be accessed at www.comdex.com.

In addition, “hospitality suites” will be available for private online conversations among exhibitors, attendees and journalists. A test center will also be available for demonstrations and live reviews of new products.
