Clarion Events North America Makes Debut with a Launch in Mexico

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Mexico City, Mexico – A new trade show for the garment industry launched in Mexico City in early February also marked a milestone for Clarion Events’ new North America division.

ExpoProduccion was held February 6-8 at the World Trade Center in Mexico City and drew a crowd of more than 2,900 buyers, many from Mexico and Central America, as well as 129 exhibitors from Mexico, the U.S., Asia and Europe.

ExpoProduccion was the first launch by the U.S.-based division of Britain’s Clarion Events, which was created just last year.

David Audrain, president and CEO of Clarion Events North America, said activity was brisk on the show floor, which spanned approximately 20,000 net square feet. “We are extremely pleased with the participation and attendance at the first edition of ExpoProduccion,” he said. “The interest from the industry ensures next year’s event will be significantly larger with growth in attendance from all over Mexico plus Central America.”

ExpoProduccion fills a niche that Audrain said has been growing due to recent economic changes in the world textile and apparel markets. “It was good timing,” he said.

Asia has dominated clothing manufacturing in the past several years, but the situation has been changing as costs in Asia creep higher and clothing companies have turned the focus back on Latin America. “Mexico is seeing a resurgence in garments,” Audrain said. “American brands that were sourcing in Mexico some years back shifted to Asia, but that is not saving them that much anymore.”

The next trade show from Audrain’s division is the Atlanta Food Service Expo, which launches October 20-22 at the Georgia World Congress Center and will be co-located with World Tea East.

“We are working on some other shows as well,” Audrain told Trade Show Executive.
