Britton Jones Launches Boutique Events Company

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Norwalk, Conn.– Trade show veteran Britton Jones has launched his next generation of event organizing companies just months after selling off his interests in Business Journals Inc. (BJI), and LeftField Media.

NXT Events Media Group, LLC, debuted in October with Jones at the helm as Founder, Chairman and CEO. “I have never been more excited about a career opportunity,” said Jones. “I am looking forward to helping fill a real void in the industry.”

That void, Jones said, is actually a knowledge gap between the worlds of large and smaller show organizers. NXT Events will bring the expertise of major show organizers and managers to planners who are creating smaller-scale events that might require a different management style. “Through acquisitions and potential partnerships, I am excited now to bring these resources to smaller, more entrepreneurial organizers who want to grow their business,” Jones said.

“I am a student of the beauty of simplicity,” said Jones. “I truly appreciate the importance of being nimble, dynamic and staying close to customers and their ever-changing needs. This will always be a top priority at NXT Events Media Group.”

NXT Events Media is the latest entry on a long resume that Jones has compiled in some 36 years in the trade show industry. He entered the industry through BJI, his family’s Connecticut-based business, and enjoyed particular success with the BJI Fashion Group trade show portfolio. Over the years, BJI placed multiple shows on the Trade Show Executive Fastest 50 rankings and received five Fastest 50 Grand Awards.

Jones also launched LeftField Media in 2014 with partners Greg Topalian of ReedPop and Sharon Enright of Penton.

Jones created a major splash earlier this year when BJI was sold to UBM, and Clarion acquired LeftField Media.

Jones has also been very active in the exhibitions industry, serving on numerous boards and is a frequent speaker at industry events. He is a past chairman of the Society of Independent Show Organizers and the Center for Exhibition Industry Research. He received the 2016 Robert L. Krakoff Leadership Award from the International Association of Exhibitions and Events.

By forming NXT Events, Jones plans to bring his secrets of success with the next generation of show organizers. “Achieving notable success in one of the world’s most sophisticated and competitive marketplaces forced me to hone my skills, expand my contacts and develop the full expertise required to produce world-class events,” he said. “I am setting out to build a great and enduring company and have always found that the financial success is best earned by answering industry needs with excellence.”
