Bill Glasgow to Retire Next Week

HIL ANDERSON, SENIOR EDITOR

Orchard Park, IL – Veteran trade show manager Bill Glasgow announced his intention to retire at the end of June and turn the full management of William T. Glasgow, Inc. (WTG) over to his two sons. Glasgow told Trade Show Executive that even after 50 years in the trade show industry, he would be open to offers to work as a floor manager.

The company Glasgow founded in 1984 is best known for its long-time management of AAPEX Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo, which was ranked 31st on the Trade Show Executive Gold 100 with 448,700 net square feet of exhibit space in 2010.

Glasgow founded his suburban Chicago company after spending nearly 10 years as show manager of the International Consumer Electronics Show, which for a time included a Summer version held in Chicago and the familiar Winter show in Las Vegas. Previously, he had worked in management for Hilton Catering and Greyhound Food Management at McCormick Place.

Glasgow was also active in the overall industry. He helped found the Major American Trade Show Organizers and was MATSO’s first chairman. In 2010, he received the Outstanding Achievement in Industry Leadership Award from the International Association of Exhibitions and events.

The management of the company will go to Glasgow’s sons, Brian and Bill Jr. Both forged their own successful careers in trade show management.

Bill Jr., was formerly with Hall-Erickson and worked on the Big I Show and the Automotive Parts & Accessories (APAA) Show, which WTG currently manages. Brian was director of conventions & expositions for the American Hardware Association for 14 years.
