Albany, NY – The Albany Capital Center in upstate New York opened in March with 60 events on the books for 2017. The new center in downtown Albany has 31,700 sf of meeting/exhibit space that can accommodate up to 5,000 people. The Center is managed by SMG and is part of the Capital Complex that also includes the adjacent Times Union Center and Empire State Plaza.
The $78 million center debuted the same week as the Metro Atlantic Athletic conference basketball tournament was held at the Times Union Center. Albany officials hope that the extra space at Capital Center will attract NCAA playoff games in the future. The centers second level can hold three full-size basketball courts appropriate for practice as well as enough space for related activities such as Fan Fests, according to Capital Center general manager Doug McClain in an interview with the local Times Union newspaper prior to the center’s opening.
In late April, the center was hosting the Empire Wine Fest and had other local events on its calendar.
