New York, NY  Marketplace Events has been acquired by a private equity firm and plans to ramp up its growth in the North American consumer show market.

Sentinel Capital Partners announced the acquisition of Marketplace Events and predicted a bullish market in coming years for its events in the U.S. and Canada. “Marketplace Events is the clear leader in the North American home and garden show industry,” said Michael Fabian, a partner in the New York equity firm. “Moreover, the business was resilient during the 2008 economic downturn and should benefit from positive tailwinds in the home remodeling and repair sector in the years ahead.”

Marketplace Events is based in Ohio and organizes 44 shows, including 29 home and garden events in the U.S. and 13 in Canada. There are also two holiday boutique shows on the roster. Marketplace Events acquired two home shows in Winnipeg last Fall and also sold its American International Motorcycle Expo trade show to the Motorcycle Industry Council.

Tom Baugh, CEO of Marketplace Events, said the company remained in an expansive mood and would announce the launch of six new events later in February. “We believe our partnership with Sentinel will allow us to accelerate our growth,” he said. “The biggest single change will be our ability to make strategic acquisitions more aggressively.”
